Just in time for Black Friday: New film «Voices of Postal Delivery Workers»
New short film «Red Chair – Voices of Postal Workers» provides insight into the everyday work of postal employees.
In four impressive portraits, the new short film «Roter Sessel – Stimmen von Postbot:innen» (Red Chair – Voices of Postal Workers) sheds light on the emotions, urges, and reality of employees at Swiss Post. The film by Zurich filmmaker and syndicom union secretary Aynur Demir celebrated its preview premiere at the Red Culture Days in Zurich in November and is now available for public streaming:
Just in time for the start of the busy pre-Christmas period – around Black Friday – the film offers a rare, personal insight into the living and working conditions of parcel delivery drivers and mail carriers. It shows workers who are passionate about their jobs and identify with their work. At the same time, it highlights the increasing challenges they face on a daily basis.
Although the working conditions of delivery workers receive increased attention every year during the Christmas season, their concerns are relevant throughout the year. The workload in the delivery industry is consistently high – and at Christmas it is simply extraordinary. In the film, four postal workers openly talk about their personal experiences: mental and physical stress, family challenges, occupational safety, inadequate wages, and the high value they place on dignity and co-determination in their everyday working lives. The employees portrayed impressively demonstrate how important solidarity and joint commitment to their rights are.
For syndicom, the union representing delivery workers, the short film highlights key demands that employees have been making to Swiss Post management for years through their representatives: higher wages, more staff, tangible relief, and genuine co-determination.
