What we have achieved for IT workers: Some milestones – more to come

2020: We conclude the very first ever collective labor agreement (CLA) with
the IT consultancy Detecon.

The result: guaranteed minimum of five weeks’ holiday, home office working,
time sovereignty and participation at the workplace.

2020: We establish the first staff representative body at Google worldwide
with Googlers in Zurich.

The result: Googlers now have a voice at in the company.

2023: Mass redundancies threatened at Google. We fight back with hundreds
involved in two walkouts.

The result: A good social plan that mitigates the consequences of the
redundancies. Good to know: Our mass layoffs FAQ.

2024: We refine the CLA at T-Systems.
The result: Each week has only 40 working hours and each employee is allowed to use two working hours for further training.

What we as a union do for you

Hundreds of «Zooglers» are working with us to ensure good working conditions. They are fighting back against redundancies, discrimination, to have a voice and for transparency, and together they are achieving success. In Zurich, we established the first staff representative body in the company worldwide. It proves that problems in the workplace are better solved together!

Our involvement at T-Systems shows that we can also ensure good working conditions in the IT sector through a collective labor agreement (CLA). This is negotiated between us and the employer. At T-Systems, the CLA stipulates a binding framework for wages, working hours and holidays. From 2024, the CLA also guarantees the possibility of using two hours of working time for further training. T-Systems employees determine the demands for the negotiations and vote on the result! Incidentally, the employer also benefits from the good social partnership, because thanks to our many years of expertise, we can solve supposedly big problems quickly and profitably together.

IT consultants have a stressful but also exciting job. The employees at Detecon have therefore decided to demand security with a CLA. Our CLA guarantees Detecon employees binding regulations regarding working hours, holidays, continued payment of wages in the event of accidents and illness, and a voice in the workplace. It also sets out a clear framework for expenses and remote working. We at syndicom are convinced that consultants with other employers would also benefit from such a CLA.

Since 2021, you have benefited from regulated working conditions negotiated by your union, syndicom. The CLA contains a binding framework for wages, working hours, holidays and maternity and paternity leave. It also enables trust-based working hours, which ensures regulated flexibility.

Do you work at Meta, AWS, Nvidia, IBM or Microsoft? You too can actively shape your working conditions and enforce your rights with your union, syndicom. Overtime, pressure, uncertain contract terms and worries about being fired – we are familiar with all of these issues and can find solutions together. We offer a platform so that you and your colleagues can collectively enforce better working conditions, more transparent wages, working time models that suit you and more! We strengthen the voice of employees in the FAANGs and enable joint negotiations for clear and good working conditions.

The future of the tech worker in Switzerland – what we are planning

Hundreds of colleagues from the tech world are already involved with syndicom. Whether at a large global corporation such as Google, Microsoft or AWS or a local SME – they are all convinced that we can secure and improve our working conditions together.

Our goal: Good work for all – are you with us?

We want good work and secure jobs for all tech workers, from Google to Microsoft and AWS to programmers, software developers or system administrators in local SMEs.

That’s why we have been involved with digitalization issues for years. We are experts when it comes to the use of AI in the workplace. Thanks to surveys and comprehensive analyses, we know the advantages and challenges of home office working and remote working. We have insight into large tech companies and can demonstrate successes. We are in constant dialog with politicians and administrators to combat the shortage of skilled workers. And last but not least, we are dealing with the intensification of work – because this is often accompanied by burnout and other mental health problems.

We achieve our goals by organizing ourselves and working together. Are you with us?
