Swisscom has been driving forward operational change for about ten years. The Board of Directors and management have implemented strict measures to reduce costs. Every year, Swisscom cuts hundreds of jobs in various divisions of the company in Switzerland, while simultaneously creating new jobs elsewhere. Employees over the age of 50 are often affected, and are given notice and require a social compensation plan. As a group, Swisscom has a social responsibility towards its employees, who have contributed to the company’s success for years and decades.

We therefore demand a clear commitment from Swisscom management to Switzerland as a business location. Swisscom has a duty to ensure that employees can continue to rely on good and appropriate work at Swisscom in the future. We therefore demand from Swisscom:

  • Jobs in Switzerland: Positions must first be advertised in Switzerland and filled at locations in Switzerland – including IT and development positions.
  • Sufficient staff for customer services in Switzerland: Swisscom must employ enough staff to ensure high-quality and personalized customer services.
  • Strengthening Switzerland as a place of work with skilled workers: Employees of Swisscom subsidiaries abroad should be given the right to move to a location in Switzerland – under Swiss conditions. This will combat the shortage of skilled workers and support the further development of Swisscom in Switzerland.
  • Future-proof skills: All employees must be empowered for a future shaped by automation and artificial intelligence. These technologies should support employees and lead to new activities rather than causing job cuts.
  • Continuous training and education: Swisscom has an obligation to ensure that all employees are prepared at an early stage and proactively for new requirements.
  • Involvement of older employees: Older employees must also be taken along on this path in order to offer them prospects until retirement. Their experience and skills are particularly valuable in times of a shortage of skilled workers and digital transformation.
  • Recognition of experience and performance: In the event of job cuts, in-depth assessment of alternative employment opportunities or follow-up solutions must be ensured in order to take into account the specific labor market situation of the employees affected.

That we will all still have good, meaningful work at Swisscom in 10 years’ time – without a constant fear of job cuts or outsourcing.

That is why we are calling for seven concrete points with this petition that Swisscom can implement.

It can be attractive for a company to employ people abroad for lower wages. We can prevent this by giving people the right to work in Switzerland if they wish. At the same time, Switzerland will be strengthened as a place to work and the shortage of skilled workers will be reduced.

We will present our demands to management and we are confident that they will be met with open ears. Especially if we can show that many Swisscom employees like you support them. We will keep you updated!
