This includes physical, emotional, and organizational tasks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can be paid or unpaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-fe72eea7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Paid care work:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Care, support, childcare, social work, education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Part of the public service and public infrastructure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Unpaid care work:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Childcare<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Caring for relatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Household and daily organization<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paid employment would not function without unpaid care work<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Figures and the reality<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>12.2 billion hours of unpaid work per year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Around two thirds performed by women<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Total value: 450 billion Swiss francs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2024, approximately 8.1 billion hours of paid work were performed.<br>Unpaid care work significantly exceeds paid work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why does this affect us all?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">syndicom does not represent traditional care professions. Nevertheless, the issue affects all our members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because our members also perform care work \u2013 before or after work, on weekends or alongside paid employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Care work is the foundation of all paid employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Examples<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-slider is-autoplay is-style-narrow-mid is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile is-style-stacked-spacious coblocks-animate\" data-coblocks-animation=\"zoomIn\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-725102d84102713a25f1c0ced027dd0c wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Logistics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Irregular working hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Care needs to be organized early<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile is-style-stacked-spacious coblocks-animate\" data-coblocks-animation=\"zoomIn\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ICT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Care work if often performed alongside paid work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High degree of flexibility and accessibility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile is-style-stacked-spacious coblocks-animate\" data-coblocks-animation=\"zoomIn\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Media:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Insecure income<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Irregular working hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-narrow is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-narrow is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Different jobs \u2013 equally dependent on care work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Consequences<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Part-time work trap and lower income<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unequal distribution of work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Higher risk of poverty in old age<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multiple stresses and time pressure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Women and FINTA* individuals are particularly affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Care work is a political issue<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Care work is not simply a private matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How it is distributed depends on basic conditions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Working hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wages<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When cuts are made in public services:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Families have to take on more responsibilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unpaid work increases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pressure on employees increases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unpaid care work increases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can we do?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-narrow is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-style-accordion has-background-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-fe72eea7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-background-background-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e5ea8a99dc189cf4102c20dbdfd31bb1 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Talk about care work<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"is-style-default wp-block-paragraph\">Talk to your colleagues about your responsibilities, difficulties, or time conflicts. Share your experiences and exchange ideas. Far more people are going through the same thing than you might think.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-style-accordion has-background-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-fe72eea7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-background-background-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f51eb01e5aa954c0890a3c7766bc5c9c wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Set boundaries<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"is-style-default wp-block-paragraph\">Do not accept meetings early in the morning or late at night, even if they&#8217;re online. Do not work during your free time and do not try to do care work &#8220;alongside\u201d paid work. Consciously schedule your care obligations into your calendar. This is legitimate and makes unpaid work visible.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-style-accordion has-background-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-fe72eea7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-background-background-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2462b5941b582eb7df0e9391b9d0266b wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Exercise your rights<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"is-style-default wp-block-paragraph\">Find out what your employment contract or collective labor agreement states and assert your rights. You are entitled to days off to care for relatives or sick children. If flexible working hours are provided for, you must actually use them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-style-accordion has-background-background-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-fe72eea7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-background-background-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-foreground-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6fcb84a73111c120fec3f1229ab07a5f wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Be involved with defining your working conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"is-style-default wp-block-paragraph\">Play a part. Issues such as childcare, days off, flexible working hours, or parental leave can be regulated, for example, in collective bargaining agreements. Together, you can develop and implement solutions.
