syndicom, the union for the media sector
Do you work in printed or digital media? From journalists to photographers to copywriters and radio presenters – you’ve come to the right place, whether you’re freelance or employed. Because we’re the union for you! Thanks to us, you’re not fighting alone, you’re part of a strong community.
What we are demanding:
- Good working conditions! That’s why we are negotiating a collective labor agreement (CLA) for Swiss-German newspaper publishers.
- Fair wages! For freelancers and permanent employees! We want to regulate this with the CLA. Until this comes into force, we will submit wage and fee recommendations – against dumping wages and so that we do not allow ourselves to be played off against each other!
- Stop the job cuts! We are fighting together with you and your colleagues against layoffs. Read the FAQ mass layoffs.
- State media finding! We are committed to media funding, media freedom and fair legal frameworks for journalists. We represent you in the political arena and also work with other associations internationally.
As a member you are part of our movement – but you also benefit as an individual

Support with training and further training
Are you still in training? We will give you up to CHF 100 for textbooks or other training materials.
Are you doing further professional training? You will receive a third of the course costs up to 500 francs a year.
Our service for members
Under «Downloads» you will find numerous tips and tricks – such as regarding wage negotiations and for combating sexual harassment in editorial offices.
Extra benefits for freelancers!
We protect and connect freelance media professionals. Our freelance pension fund is tailor-made for freelancers in the media and communication sector. We organize events where you can network with other professionals. And in our member’s area, my.syndicom, you will find tips and tricks regarding fees, work contracts, and mandatory and voluntary insurance and pension funds.
Freelance media professionals do not have an editorial team to support them. So it’s important that freelancers network and are represented in the political arena. syndicom’s Freelance Commission takes on this task. For example, we organize the annual industry event «National Freelancers Day».
